Studying A-level computer science is a great choice for students because it opens up a world of exciting opportunities and equips you with essential skills for the future. In this course, you'll learn how to think logically and solve problems efficiently, which are valuable skills in any career. You'll also get hands-on experience with programming, allowing you to create your own software and apps.  

What can I expect? 

A-level Computer Science is taught by our Head of Computing. In the lessons you will undertake practical programming skills as well as theory-based topics.

Students will take part in a wide range of annual programming competitions including: 

Students can also take part in the VEX Robotics Competition against other schools. 

Each year we visit Bletchley Park, the home of code breaking.

Our general entry requirements are that you need 5 Grade 6s in your GCSEs to study A Levels. One of these Grade 6s must be Bin Computer Science.

With the foundational knowledge and skills gained, you can pursue roles such as software developer, where you design and build applications, or a systems analyst, focusing on improving IT systems for businesses. Cybersecurity experts are in high demand to protect organizations from digital threats. You can also venture into data science, analysing large datasets to derive meaningful insights and drive decision-making. Other careers include artificial intelligence and machine learning engineer, game developer, and network architect.
